The grand prize winner of C &
H Sugar's Dream Kitchen Recipe contest was Marcella Sarne of Long Beach,
CA. With a husband and three children, she sure knows how to whip up a
tasty dessert with a minimum of ingredients and time.
Out of 5300 submitted recipes "Marcella's Butter
Almond Cake" won the stay-at-home mom a custom-designed kitchen valued
at $40,000. A secret of the recipe was using only quality ingredients like
C&H Pure Cane Sugar. She also wins all of our thanks for sharing a
recipe that's not only delicious but flavorfiil and fast to make.
MARCELLA'S
BUTTER ALMOND CAKE

This quick, delicious recipe by Marcella Sarne
of Long Beach, California, was the GRAND PRIZE winner in the C&H Sugar
1999 Dream Kitchen Baking Contest.
1 ½ cups C&H Pure Cane Granulated
Sugar
¾ cup melted butter
2 eggs
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
1 ½ cups flour
3 tablespoons sliced almonds, lighily toasted
1 tablespoon C&H Pure Cane Granulated
Sugar (for garnish)
Preheat oven to 3500F.
Grease and flour 9-inch round pan
Lightly toast sliced almonds
Blend sugar and melted butter.
Beat in eggs.
Stir in almond and vanilla
extracts. Add salt and flour and mix well.
Spread batter into pan.
SprinHe with granulated sugar and almonds.
Bake for 30-35 minutes.
Serves 8.
Nutritional inforniation per serving: 475 calories,
24 g total fat, 93 mg cholesterol, 90 mg sodium, 1.7 g fiber, 6 g protein.
